Jac van STEEN | conductor
Christmas is traditionally a time of fairy tales. Jac van Steen, the FOK chief guest conductor, has already recounted the one about Cinderella. This time there will be three stories. The Snow Maiden by Rimsky-Korsakov. Petrushka, the Moor and their love for the Ballerina, as rendered by Igor Stravinsky’s sparkling music. And finally, the fabulous playing of the cellist from Montreal Jean-Guihen Queyras, who will be performing with the FOK orchestra for the first time. Jean-Guihen’s repertoire spans from Vivaldi to Ligeti, and he plays with the Freiburger Barockorchester as well as under the batons of Leonard Slatkin and Roger Norrington. He feels at home everywhere. Hopefully, this will be also the case with Smetana Hall where his fingers will play the rococo theme by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
The concert is being held under the auspices of the Embassy of Canada.
