In 2003, the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK met Renée Fleming for the first time; the November concerts were conducted by Christian Benda. The American soprano, whose grandparents came from Prague, dedicated the first concert, on 11 November, to President Václav Havel. He came to the concert and afterwards they talked until the early hours about Czech national identity, the future, religion... Renée Fleming is coming back to the FOK on 9 July 2019, to remember Václav Havel and mark the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. The programme will feature operetta and opera arias, including the Song to the Moon, and songs from musicals, for example You’ll Never Walk Alone. The concert will be conducted by one of the most prominent students of Leonard Bernstein and a regular collaborator with the Prague Symphony Orchestra – Elli Jaffe.
