QUEYRAS – SOLO FOR THE CELLO

Advent is a time of spirituality and hope. The voice of a solo cello addresses both. In particular the voice of a cello from the workshop of Gioffredo Cappa from 1696, which will resound in the hands of the phenomenal Jean-Guihen Queyras. This native from Montreal moves effortlessly from historically-informed performance practice to intense contacts with contemporary composers. This duality is reflected in the program of his solo recital at the Church of Saints Simon and Jude, where suites by Johann Sebastian Bach will be followed by works of Benjamin Britten. After an evening spent on his own on the stage, Queyras will move to Smetana Hall, where he will immerse himself – accompanied by the FOK orchestra – in music by Tchaikovsky.

The concert is being held under the auspices of the Embassy of Canada.
