Maria João PIRES & Lilit GRIGORYAN | piano
The legendary pianist Maria João Pires does not give many concerts anymore; after all, to meet her eager audiences she has over 60 years of travelling behind her. She devotes her time to charitable projects supporting children and young artists. Luckily, we did manage to entice her to Prague, as Prague is Mozart’s. And so is this petit Portuguese. Indeed in 1990, she received the Grand Prix du Disque for her recordings of Mozart’s complete piano sonatas. She is bringing a remarkable program to the Rudolfinum and she is not coming alone. For her performance of Mozart’s four-hand sonatas she’s invited her ‘charge’, the excellent Armenian pianist Lilit Grigoryan; both will also be playing solo sonatas.
The concert is being held under the auspices of H. E. Mr. Luís de Almeida Sampaio, Ambassador of Portugal and H. E. Mr. Ashot Hovakimian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Czech Republic.
