Preludes Op. 23
Variations on a Theme of Corelli Op. 42
Études-Tableaux Op. 39
Nikolai LUGANSKY | piano
In May 2019, Nikolai Lugansky saved us. The Ashkenazy Duo was unable to perform, and the Russian virtuoso readily stepped in at the last minute. And what a stand-in! Stunning and enchanting. Lugansky played, among other pieces, a selection of Rachmaninov's Preludes. Since then, we have been looking for another opportunity for a reunion, and we found a symbolic day at the end of March 2023, when the whole world will mark the 150th birth anniversary of one of the greatest pianists and composers. In his honour, Preludes will be heard in its entirety, with two more breath-taking sets added. Nikolai Lugansky takes exemplary care of Sergei Rachmaninov. He not only plays his music, he also works as artistic director of the Rachmaninov Festival in Ivanovka and supports the composer’s local museum.
