PRAGUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Tomáš BRAUNER | conductor
If we are to name any composers the next FOK chief conductor, Tomáš Brauner, ‘grew up’ with, it would have to be Joseph Haydn, Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů. Haydn and Dvořák strongly inspired Bohuslav Martinů, whose important jubilee we are observing in 2019. That is why we shall hear Haydn’s Symphony, Alleluja! We extended a similarly joyful invitation to the brilliant cellist Michal Kaňka, who has been focusing on Martinů’s concerti all his life. The program will culminate with Dvořák’s English Symphony, which is linked to Martinů’s First Cello Concerto not only thanks to its bright peaceful character, but also with its performance history; when, in 1940, its famous dedicatee Pierre Fournier performed the concerto, it appeared regularly on the program with Dvořák’s Op. 88.
end of the concert at 9.00 p.m.
