Dvořák’s oratorio Stabat mater ranks among the most famous and artistically most compelling compositions in its genre. The setting of the sacred text about the suffering of Jesus Christ’s mother is mainly performed during Easter, and the FOK upholds this tradition in Smetana Hall of the Municipal House. However, for example in 2004, the orchestra toured with this “oratorio of all oratorios” to Rome and the Cardinal College with the future Pope Benedict XVI at the helm, heard the performance in the ancient Roman Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore!
