In 2020, we should pay tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven, as it is the year of his 250th birthday. A symphony orchestra can play an overture, present a solo concerto with fantastic soloists, or one of his symphonies. Or else, as the FOK will - do it all in one go! Beethoven himself conducted the premiere of the Egmont overture, and there is no need to introduce the famous Fifth – Destiny Symphony. The Concerto Absolute Jest by the American composer John Adams, on the other hand, deserves a few words of introduction. It was inspired by Beethoven’s late quartets, from which it frequently quotes, and refers to his chamber and symphonic oeuvre. At Smetana Hall the FOK and Michael Sanderling will be, thanks to John Adams, joined by the excellent Bennewitz Quartet. Simply, an absolute Beethovian evening.
