VERDI – REQUIEM

Two performances of Verdi’s Requiem will take place immediately after All Souls’ Day. There is no better composition for a time when we pray for the dead: “We remember our departed loved ones and ask ourselves what testimony they have left us.” The Requiem was written as homage to the novelist Alessandro Manzoni, and Giuseppe Verdi also incorporated into the piece an earlier Mass intended for Rossini. We know the legacy of these giants. In addition, our ancestors have left us the beautiful Smetana Hall, a perfect venue for large vocal-instrumental works. Let’s pay them all our respects together with Tomáš Brauner, the new FOK chief conductor, and the star cast.
