The pairing of a concert piece by Béla Bartók and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff is not new to FOK. In 2011, a similar combination was chosen by the Prague Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the then chief conductor Jiří Kout. Instead of a concerto for two pianos and percussion, this time we opted for solo violin and Bartók’s First Violin Concerto, which originated out of his great love for the violinist Stefi Geyer. Unfortunately, the love was unrequited, Stefi Geyer did not play the concerto, and in the end the premiere took place after Bartok’s death. The famous Slovak violinist Dalibor Karvay, who has already played for Prince Charles at Windsor Castle, will now come to Prague to perform the concert with great fervour. As one of the most frequently performed compositions, Carmina burana needs no comment except that we can look forward to a great cast, including the Norwegian baritone, Audun Iversen. A beautiful end of the season!
