Conductors, and not political regimes or changes in the official language, are the milestones in the history of an orchestra. Each represents an era. Now, to the chimes of bells from St. Joseph’s Basilica arrives Czech conductor Tomáš Brauner. Therefore, in years to come we’ll be calling this the ‘Tomáš Brauner Epoch’! The opening concert of the new era offers a typical programme for both the conductor and this season. Smetana, a classic figure, but this time not a classic composition, and, besides, dedicated to Prague. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto as homage to tradition. And as the highlight Bohuslav Martinů, a composer embodied in Tomáš Brauner’s coat-of-arms.
