Although Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is the first name we see on the program, the main role tonight belongs to the Czech-German composer Václav Jindřich Veit. These days, his name is familiar only to specialized music historians. The typical listener has probably never heard of this pianist, publicist and organizer of musical life in Bohemia in the first half of the 19th century. And yet, in his time, Veit was an important and popular composer, whose work was also respected abroad - especially by the Germans. And what is his music like? It’s beautiful and uplifting. Brimming with melodic ideas. Full of contrasts. He speaks to the listener intimately and urgently, and in his overall structure he draws beautiful romantic images full of colors in all their hues.
