Andrej Borejko, our distinguished guest, is predisposed by his descent into the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. Just like the FOK orchestra, which at the turn of the millennium experienced and recorded Shostakovich's work with his son Maxim. Since then, the orchestra has been historically informed. This is especially important in case of the Tenth Symphony, from the fateful year of 1953; the piece is imbued with a sense of mortality and finality, but also a hope that every dictatorship will end one day. In contrast, the work by the Canadian-Greek Christos Hatzis comes to Prague as a sheer novelty. Maestro Borejko fell in love with Hatzis’ evocative music during his time in Winnipeg. On his travels around the world, he also met the Polish wonder, the winner of the Chopin competition, Rafał Blechacz. By completing a quote from Shakespeare's The Tempest that inspired the title of Hatzis' composition, we get a motto for the entire programme: “Be not afeared. The isle is full of noises, sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.”
