The wonderful tradition of Liederabend – an evening of songs – was born in the era of Romanticism. Musicians and music lovers would gather most often in someone’s house and played songs for pleasure. Songs that were a perfect synthesis of lyrics and music. The composers are inspired by text, its mood and character. And the same goes for interpreters. Kateřina Kněžíková, the leading Prague National Theatre soloist will present both French and Czech repertoire. Although we know that Dvořák was in trouble with his publisher Simrock, who had been promised a cycle of songs and nothing was delivered, Dvořák complained to him that “all what is good has been already set”. Fortunately, in the end he did find texts to set.
