Cello concerto in E minor Op. 85
Romeo and Juliet (selection from suites)
Jiří BÁRTA | cello
PRAGUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Tomáš BRAUNER | conductor
FOK chief conductor Tomáš Brauner has already met ‘musically’ with the orchestra's great friend Jiří Bárta. It was the year 2015 and on the musicians’ stands was the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra called Azul by the contemporary composer Osvald Golijov, confirming that both musicians have their fingers and baton on the pulse of time. In October 2022, however, we reach together for the classics of the 20th century: opuses such as Elgar's meditative Cello Concerto and Prokofiev's highly charged ballet music to Romeo and Juliet. By the way, Tomáš Brauner grew up on it (apparently, the gramophone record was almost completely worn out), and he’ll be honoring the legendary, robust example of Karel Ančerl.
