LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
Variations and Fugue for Piano in E flat major, Op. 35
JOHANNES BRAHMS
Three Intermezzos Op. 117
His name itself sounds like a sonata movement. Grigory Lipmanovich Sokolov. A musical explorer who delves into the piano literature’s shining depths. It is no coincidence, nor unusual, that Sokolov has not yet announced the exact program of his November recital. He polishes his dramaturgical gems up to the last moment and gives emphasis on instant inspiration and intuition. In any case, a truly extraordinary experience awaits us, as his repertoire is almost endless, ranging from the Renaissance Byrd, the Baroque Froberger, to the Armenian icon Komitas or the modernist Boris Arapov. Even with well-known repertoire he achieves unique insights. In short, we are honored to have him once again as a guest of the World Piano Music series after more than 30 years.
The concert is held in cooperation with the Rudolf Firkušný Piano Festival.
