The late Renaissance composer Gulio Caccini wrote a song called Dalla porta d’Oriente (From the Gate of Orient). The grand master of the Persian lute setar, Kiya Tabassian, born in Teheran, headed in the same direction, when in 1990 he left Iran for Montreal. As is usual, he missed his homeland, hence he started in Canada the ensemble Constantinople to build a bridge between Western and Eastern traditions. Together with the famous Neapolitan tenor Marco Beasley, they reached for a manual of a renowned Polish musician Wojciech Bobowski (1610–1675, after converting to Islam, known as Ali Ufki), in order to bring to light songs linking Europe and the Middle East. The East will come close as well thanks to Jerusalem’s Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by Claudio Monteverdi.
