Dvořák’s oratorio Stabat mater is among the most famous and musically powerful works of its kind. The composition, setting the text about the suffering of Christ’s mother, is mainly performed at Easter and this tradition is kept by the FOK Orchestra at Smetana Hall in the Municipal House. However, in 2004, the orchestra took this supreme oratorio on a tour to Rome and presented it in the ancient Roman Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore to the College of Cardinals that included the future Pope Benedict XVI. The Orchestra’s Finnish chief conductor, Pietari Inkinen, will lead the excellent Czech and Slovak soloists, orchestra and chorus.
