Columbus Day is a day when Americans mark the discovery of their native continent; in 2016 this day falls on October 10th. The FOK will honour Christopher, the navigator, in a programme performed on the eve of the holiday. Principal guest conductor, Jac van Steen, will be conducting an evening full of suites; the phenomenal horn player and member of the orchestra, Zuzana Rzounková, will be the evening’s soloist. Apart from native Americans such as Leonard Bernstein and Kerry Turner, who has been linked with the orchestra thanks to Zuzana Rzounková, music by two Czech composers with American links – Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů – will also be heard.

The concert is being held under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy to the Czech Republic.
