The Submerged Cathedral (arr. Leopold Stokowski)
Images for orchestra
Pictures at an Exhibition (arr. Maurice Ravel)
PRAGUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
José CURA | conductor
In March 2018, we mark the 100th anniversary of the death of the great French composer Claude Debussy. And there is no better way to celebrate than with José Cura conducting Debussy’s suite Images, whose third part is called "Ibéria" and must therefore be close to Cura’s heart. The arrival of spring is celebrated in the Images third section, Round Dances of Spring. And while we’re at it, let’s name the next piece – ‘Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks’, ‘Samuel Goldenberg and Shmuyle’, ‘Market in Limoges’– and we know immediately that Maurice Ravel, Debussy’s Impressionist friend, who painted Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in immortal colours is also on the programme.
The concert is being held under the auspices of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic to the Czech Republic.
