GYÖRGY KURTÁG Kafka-Fragments (Czech premiere)
Iva BITTOVÁ | singing
Hana KOTKOVÁ | violin
György Kurtág (1926!) is a legend. He has received all of the important prizes for composers, including the Golden Lion in Venice for his lifetime achievement. The prizes are, however, only an external reflection of the substance: the suggestive power of Kurtág’s artistic statement. It’s well manifested in the one-hour cyclic composition of forty separate short pieces Kafka Fragments from 1985–1986, for voice and violin. Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Dawn Upshaw are among the interpreters who repeatedly perform the Fragments on the world stages, and the Czech premiere will be given by an extraordinary duo: Iva Bittová and Hana Kotková. And symbolically at a venue in Dušní Street where Kafka’s statues and the Spanish Synagogue stand.
