Miracles do happen! In 1908, Igor Stravinsky composed Funeral Song as a memorial tribute to his teacher Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov which was lost after its premiere, and assumed destroyed during the Bolshevik revolution. By chance during the closure for the reconstruction of St. Petersburg’s historic conservatoire building and removal of stock, look what’s lying among the dust-covered boxes!? A composition Stravinsky himself appreciated very much is given premieres in 2017 in several countries – in Germany by the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle. The FOK led by Petr Altrichter is taking care of the Czech first night. Yes, miracles do happen – in the second half of the programme Garrick Ohlsson will be sitting at the piano!
