‘To be always ready at the right time and at the right place’ may sound like a hollow formula. Yet in the case of the young Finnish pianist Antti Siirala a chance opportunity and his readiness to take it played a major role in his career. During his debut in Brussels in 2004, leading the orchestra from the piano, he replaced a conductor who had been taken ill. He saved the concert and a few more successful stand-ins followed. But that’s the end to all fortuity. It’s not by chance that Antti Siirala gives his performance here three days after the grandiose celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence – Itsenäisyyspäivä. And of course, the concert’s programme is not accidental either. Through the works of Einojuhani Rautavaara and Jean Sibelius the young artist will lay out before the audience the essence of Finnish musical poetry.
The concert is being held under the auspices of H. E. Mrs. Helena Tuuri, Ambassador of Finland to the Czech Republic
