Jaromír M. Krygel

Conductor Jaromír M. Krygel studied the Ostrava Conservatory (viola, music direction, and orchestral conducting) to then continue his studies at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno with the prominent Czech conductor Stanislav Macura.

uring the course of his conservatory studies, his talent was lent support by the Czech Music Foundation, helping J. M. Krygel to become assistant to the principal conductor at Olomouc Moravian Philharmonic already at age 18 (1991 – 1993). He was the principal conductor at Brno Chamber Philharmonic (previously known as Young Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra) in 1994 – 1997, characterised by its interpretations of classical and Baroque music on period instruments. In 1997, J. M. Krygel was one of the youngest successful participants at the Concours International de Jeunes Chefs d´Orchestre de Besançon.

The years 2002 – 2003 saw him as a conductor with Karlovy Vary Symphonic Orchestra and, at the same time, a guest conductor with Opava Silesian Theatre (2003 – 2004). In addition to his concert activities on domestic stages and abroad (France, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark) with programmes including opera, operetta and orchestral works, J. M. Krygel since 2007 has held a teaching position at the Pardubice Conservatory as a conducting teacher. In 2009 he founded the International Music Festival Le Quattro Stagioni in Pardubice and has held the position of Festival president and artistic director. At the same time, he became actively involved in the Autumn Festival of Sacred Music in Olomouc.

J. M. Krygel has taken part in a number of international conducting courses led by famous conductors (J. Bělohlávek, Z. Nagy, J. Panula, K. Trevor, etc.). He has also attended several master interpretation courses – Bachakademie at Prague, and invited by H. Rilling in person, also at Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (as part of Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart), led by H. Rilling and J. E. Gardiner.

J. M. Krygel has appeared as guest conductor of many outstanding orchestras (Cappella Istropolitana, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra Zlín, Brno Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Chamber Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra Košice, Slovak Sinfonietta, etc.), as well as choirs (Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno, Kühn Mixed Choir, Prague Philharmonic Choir, etc.). He has been invited to perform at international music festivals (Concentus Moraviae, Moravian Autumn, Autumn Strings, Autumn Festival of Sacred Music, etc.).

Several of his concerts were recorded or live broadcast on Czech Television (B. Britten – War Requiem), TV Noe (J. Massenet – Marie-Magdeleine) or Czech Radio (W. A. Mozart – Davide penitente, J. A. Koželuh – Messa curta e solenne in D and other).
