Serge Baudo

After establishing himself as a conductor in 1959, Serge Baudo was chosen in 1962 by Herbert von Karajan to conduct Pelléas et Mélisande at La Scala, Milan. For more than 10 years, he was engaged with numerous productions at the Aix en Provence Festival. His first major appointment was that of permanent conductor at the Paris Opera in addition to being the first Principal Conductor of the newly founded Orchestre de Paris. From 1970 to 1988, he was musical director of the Orchestre National de Lyon. In addition, he has guest-conducted many of the world’s most important orchestras and opera companies. In March 2001, Serge Baudo was announced as Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
Serge Baudo’s discography is particularly notable, featuring recordings with the London Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de Lyon and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. He also recorded the Fauré Requiem with the LPO, and a Brahms programme with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Serge Baudo has conducted many first performances in both concerts and recordings of works by Messiaen, Dutilleux, Tomasi, Milhaud, Daniel-Lesur and Mihalovici and is a regular interpreter of twentieth century music.
